It is the first undertaking of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, a charitable organization created by Act XXI of 1860 establishing British Indian Societies.

After his mother, Ms. Shaukat Khanum received a cancer diagnosis in 1985, the concept of constructing a cancer hospital was born. He became aware of the need for specialized cancer care while caring for his mother and while witnessing the situation of underprivileged cancer patients in Pakistani hospitals. His goal was to provide every Pakistani in need of cancer treatment with access to it.
