Introduction of MCB:
MCB Bank Limited is a global commercial bank with its main office in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The bank has an extensive network of 1,551 branches in Pakistan. Pakistani company Nishat Group and Malaysian bank Maybank hold the largest stakes.
The bank was established to provide banking services to the business community of South Asia. It was incorporated by the Adam G. Group on July 09, 1947. The bank was nationalized in 1974 during Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s regime. It was the first bank to be privatised in 1991, and a group of Pakistani business organisations under the leadership of the Nishat Group acquired it. The Nishat Group owned the majority of the bank as of June 2008. Shoaib Mumtaz is the bank’s president.
Mian Muhammad is the CEO of both MCB and Mansha Group. The group works in industries including banking, textiles, cement, and insurance that are prevalent in the nation.With specialised Islamic banking branches in six locations, the bank has developed an Islamic banking entity to provide Shariah-compliant goods and services.
In order to explore foreign markets, the bank’s management changed the name of the institution from Muslim Commercial Bank Limited to MCB Bank Limited in 2005. It faced resistance to license especially from Western countries because of the word Muslim. In 2008, the MCB head office was shifted from MCB Tower, Karachi to Lahore, to a newly constructed building, MCB House, located on Ghous-ul-Azam Street, commonly known as Jail Road.
