Houston officials plead for witnesses to come forward in the killing of ‘peaceful’ rapper Takeoff
Houston authorities are appealing for witnesses to the murder of ‘peaceful’ rapper Takeoff.
The police chief in Houston referred to the rapper Takeoff, 28, as a “peaceful” man and urged any witnesses to the killing to come forward. Houston authorities promised to bring justice to the rapper’s death.
The rapper, who is a member of the multi-platinum hip-hop group Migos, was present at a bowling alley and pool hall early on Tuesday where a private party was taking place.
Police said they received a 911 call at 2:34 a.m. reporting a shooting, and officers found Takeoff dead on the third level outside the front door. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said about 40 people were at the event, many of whom left “probably out of fear.”

A man, 23, and a woman, 24, were also injured and taken to the hospital in private vehicles, Sgt. The Homicide Division’s Michael Arrington told reporters on Tuesday. He did not elaborate on their injuries but said, “They will both be fine.”
Employees said the police shooting began after the party, when a large group of people gathered outside the front door “and it got into an argument where a disagreement led to a shooting,” Arrington said.
“Many of the people who were there fled the scene and did not stick around to give statements,” said Sgt.We can only hope that everyone of you will come forward and provide the information we need to solve the takeoff death.
According to Finner, the suspect or suspects, who may be in their 20s, are thought to have attended a private party when at least two weapons were discharged. Police are in the process of tracing the shell casing and reviewing surveillance footage, he said.

“Mark my words,” Finner said.”We’ll find the perpetrator in our magnificent city with the assistance of our lovely residents and our top-notch police force. Please allow us to take them into prison.”
“What if it was your brother?”
A culture of anti-snitching that many hip-hop musicians have long supported presents a difficulty to investigators. Takeoff’s uncle and bandmate, Quavo, appeared on Pop Smoke’s posthumous 2020 track “Snitching”, which denounced “rats” and talking to the police. Months before the song’s debut, Pop Smoke was fatally shot in Los Angeles.
However, Finner was clear that investigators do not believe the takeoff “was involved in any criminal activity at this time,” he said.
Everyone who called praised the young kid as being kind, peaceful, and talented, the chief said. He continued, “I received numerous calls from Houston and elsewhere. “From what I’ve heard, he’s respectful and non-violent. He’s not likely to be involved, but I want to wait until the inquiry is complete.
He continued, “I ask you one thing and I want it to resonate with everyone: What if it was your brother? What if it was your son? You wish to move onward. extend, so kindly enter. Get us the details so we can offer this family, who is suffering right now, some closure.

Finner cautions against blaming hip-hop, saying, “Sometimes the hip-hop community gets a bad name,” but he knows and respects a lot of people in the community. Like Atlanta, Houston boasts a strong rap scene and boasts several stars, including Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, Paul Wall and producer DJ Premier.
We must all work together to ensure that no one ends this profession because there are so many amazing people in this community, both men and women, who I love and admire. “I’m calling to start here … possibly as early as next week. I want to get together with a few of our artists to discuss how we can focus things.
Mayor Sylvester Turner requested that anyone with information about members of the hip-hop community who were present last night submit it to HPD.
He emphasized that the shooting spoke to a bigger issue than hip-hop and expressed concern that, even though homicides and violent crime have decreased in Houston, many young people of color are killing each other.
Now, Meyer declared, “everyone has access to a gun.” “In my day, you have a disagreement – a fist fight and you deal with it. In those days, if there was a disagreement, in those few seconds when emotions were running high, people would pull their guns and then they would shoot.” are – and as a result, we have many young people of color being injured. Or fatally murdered and their futures cut short and family members and friends left bereaved. Not necessarily. That this is our reality.”
Standing alongside law enforcement, he echoed Finner’s promise that Houston police would find the person or people responsible for the poet’s murder.

“We will solve this particular case. We will find the shooter or shooters, but the information provided will help expedite this,” he said.
The rap star was on an upward trajectory.
The killing of Takeoff came as a shock to the hip-hop scene, which is still mourning after the September shooting death of musician PNB Rock. Ja Rule, a rapper, tweeted, “Lecrae from Houston wrote, “This needs to stop. No heat. No profound ideas. Just sad to hear of the passing of another rapper, his son, brother, and friend. God be with all those who are grieving.”
Born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Takeoff began performing with Quavo and another relative, Offset, in 2008, and the trio had success with their 2013 single “Versace.” Three years later, his track “Bad and Boujee” with Lil Uzi Vert brought him international attention. Houston officials plead
The group Migos currently has four studio albums, two of which have achieved platinum status, along with a few individual endeavors and more than a dozen mixtapes. Takeoff’s 2018 solo effort, “The Last Rocket,” peaked at No. 4 on the US charts.
Takeoff and Quavo recently announced that they will be performing under the monikers, Unc and Phew, and their debut album, “Only Built for Infinity Links,” dropped last month, Billboard reports. It also reached number 1 on the rap charts. .
Hours before he was killed, Takeoff tweeted this video to the single, “Massie,” off the project. “Wanna know my moves and all my locations, but I’m crafty/Wanna know my stockpile, how much I have, but I won’t tell ’em,” Takeoff rhymes in the song.
Last month, he and Quavo appeared on the podcast “Drunk Champs” and in response to praise for his lyric on “Infinity Links,” Takeoff told the audience, “Time to pop it, you know my What do you mean? It’s time to give me your flowers, you know what I mean? Later, when I’m not here, I don’t want them. I want them now, so…”
